What PPC means in marketing

PPC stands for pay per click. You pay when someone clicks your ad, not when it is shown. In practice the term usually means paid search, the ads that sit above the organic results on Google.
How the auction actually works
Every search triggers an auction. Your bid is multiplied by Quality Score, Google's estimate of how relevant your ad is, how likely people are to click it and whether the landing page delivers what the ad promised.
This is why the highest bidder does not automatically win. A tightly built account with pages that match the query pays less for the same position than a competitor who bids more and sends clicks to a generic homepage.
PPC and SEO are not rivals
SEO earns organic positions over months and keeps producing traffic without a per-click charge. PPC buys visibility today and stops the moment the budget runs out.
Each feeds the other. Search terms from the ads account show exactly which phrases convert, and that is the best keyword research SEO will ever get. A strong organic page, in turn, often makes a good landing page for the campaign.
What you actually pay for
There are always two costs. The ad budget, paid to Google, and the management fee, paid to whoever runs the account. Agencies that charge a percentage of spend earn more when you spend more, a conflict of interest nobody likes to mention.
We charge a flat fee from $400 a month, and the ad budget never passes through us. That removes the argument before it starts.
Where PPC budgets disappear
Broad match keywords with no negative list. Ads pointing at a homepage instead of a page about the thing being advertised. Conversion tracking that counts page views as leads. Performance Max switched on before the account has any conversion data to learn from.
Every one of these looks healthy in a report full of impressions and clicks. The damage shows up in the sales pipeline a month later, which is why we start every engagement by checking tracking rather than bids.
When paid search is the wrong channel
If nobody searches for what you sell, PPC has nothing to buy. New product categories usually need social media and content first, so that demand exists before you try to capture it.
If the budget buys fewer than a hundred clicks a month, there is not enough data to optimise anything. At that level the results are down to chance, and you still pay the invoice.
Quick answers
Is PPC the same as Google Ads?
Google Ads is the biggest PPC platform, but the model also covers Microsoft Ads, social platforms and marketplaces.
How much should I spend to start?
Enough to buy at least a hundred clicks a month in your niche. Below that, there is not enough data to optimise the account.
Does PPC help SEO rankings?
Not directly. Google does not rank you higher because you spend on ads. Indirectly it helps a lot, because the search term data tells you which pages are worth building.
How much do you charge to manage PPC?
A flat fee from $400 a month, whatever your ad spend.
